What is the PCB?

PCB is the general name of Printed Circuit Board, translated Chinese calls pcb circuit board, because it is to choose electronic device papermaking art to be made, therefore call "package printing" circuit board. PCB is the key component of electronic components in the electronic industry. It is the support body of electronic components and the medium of protection and grounding of electronic components. PCB has long been widely used in the production and processing of electronic equipment, and is often widely used.  Its distinctive characteristics are summarized as follows:

1. High cable density, small body size and light weight are conducive to the miniaturization of electronic products.

2. Because the pattern has repeatability and consistency, reduces the error and leakage of wiring and installation, saves the maintenance, adjustment and inspection time of machinery and equipment.

3. It is conducive to mechanical automation and automatic production, improving labor efficiency and reducing the engineering cost of electronic products.

4. The design scheme can be standardized and conducive to exchange.

What is the PCBA?

PCBA is the general name of Printed Circuit Board+ Assembly. In other words, PCBA is all process of PCB empty board SMT, and then all process of DIP software.

Note: Both SMT and DIP integrate parts on PCB board. The key difference is that SMT does not need to drill holes on PCB. In DIP, PIN pins of parts must be inserted into already drilled holes.

Surface mounted Technology (SMT), the key application of surface SMT machine is to attach some small and medium-sized parts to PCB board. Its production process includes precise positioning of PCB board, packaging and printing solder paste, surface SMT machine, back welding furnace and making inspection.

DIP stands for "software", which means inserting parts into the PCB. It is a way to integrate parts with software when parts are large and uncomfortable to use for SMT technology. Its key production process is: glue, software, detection, wave welder, brush plate and make detection.

Difference between PCB and PCBA

From the above detailed introduction, it can be understood that PCBA specifically refers to a production and processing step, and can also be understood as the finished pcb circuit board, which can be counted as PCBA after the process on the PCB board is completed. A PCB, on the other hand, is an empty printed circuit board with no parts on it.

To sum up, PCBA is a manufactured board;  PCB is a bare board.
